Merchant Account Credit Card Processing
Merchant account credit card processing has become an essential for so many businesses today. In fact, virtually every business that is selling a product or service in real time needs a way to take payment by credit or debit card. The use of paper checks has declined considerably in the last decade, even when people are ordering products through the mail.
Now, with the growth of Internet commerce, it is even more vital to be able to take payment by credit card. You still see a very few old websites where the reader and potential buyer is instructed to send a check through the mail, but these are few and far between.
Most of the sites which still do this are hobby sites run by older people. It is doubtful whether any business would be able to survive operating only in this way, unless they were selling rare and highly prized items which were hard to obtain from anywhere else. On the Internet, even one person businesses have to be taking card payments in order to survive. If they are selling digital download products, this applies all the more. One of the great attractions of these downloads is that they are available immediately.
A credit card merchant account is essential for any physical store, even if they are selling extremely low cost items. People are not now accustomed to carry large amounts of cash, and will usually rely on being able to pay by card. For many, taking out a card to pay for shopping has become a routine which they hardly think about. There are many possibilities for merchant accounts, and the best providers can tailor them to your exact needs. In many cases, the terminal will be free when you are accepted.
Getting accepted for merchant credit is not always easy, so it is good to know that there are alternatives. These alternatives are only really meant for online retailers, but there are ways to improvise if you are selling offline. A company such as 2Checkout will allow you to accept credit and debit card payments online, and it is a lot easier to get accepted. It is now even possible to get a MasterCard, and draw the money out onto that so it can be spent straight away.
PayPal is the most commonly used online payment processor, and you can even improvise with it to create account merchant facilities if you are selling offline. It is possible to pay through PayPal even if you have no account, just by using a credit or debit card. What you need to do as a retailer is use a laptop computer on which you can display your PayPal account page. The customer can then type in their card number and pay you. It is not as good a solution as a full merchant account, but it is workable if you cannot obtain merchant account credit facilities.
